Kapil Sibal in a conference with state
ministers said that the prestigious IITs (Indian Institutes of
Technology) of the country will prepare questions papers for the
ISEET (Indian Science Engineering
Eligibility Test) for next year. This is the first time when the
government has decided to hold a common entrance test for all
IITs, NITs of the country rather than conducting individual tests
for them. Central Board of
Secondary Education (CBSE) will
take care of management and also conduct the entrance test.
HRD Ministry want to replace the
existing exam AIEEE and IIT-JEE by ISEET. Both the exams are conducted by CBSE for engineering college admission.
JEE exam is conducted by IITs for UG
and Integrated PG engineering courses for admission in IITs only.
This aspiring exam is going to replace all state level entrance
exams too for engineering courses.
The ISEET 2013 will be held in two
phases: Main exam and advance examination. IITs and other Central
Educational Institutions were also proposing to accept a
weightage of 40% for state Board marks.
Some states are not happy with this change and not willing to
accept this exam. They said that states conduct the exam in
regional language, but this ISEET exam
will be held only in Hindi or in English. This will create
problem for those students who do not know both the languages.
The States of Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Puducherry
and West Bengal asked for some more time to study the proposal in
detail. However, the ministry want to reach up to some conclusion
over this proposal within two months.
